Wallace Bishop
Wallace Bishop, the visionary founder of Wallace Bishop Jewellers, began his craft in Birmingham in the early 20th century, where his talents were nurtured within a distinguished British jewellery family renowned for creating preices for aristocrats and elite clinets around the world.
Wallace, along with his wife May and their two children, Carl and Ethel, emigrated to Queensland in 1909 aboard the Rippingham Grange. Soon after arriving, Wallace joined an established diamond ring maker before creating his own jewellery manufacturing business at 46 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane.
Together with May, a skilled gilder, and two employees, they pioneered new techniques such as vitreous enamelling and brought refined English craftmanship to Australia - laying the foundation for what would become one of the most enduring and beloved jewellery houses.
