The Grand Seiko Evolution 9 SLGH027 is a Hi-Beat mechanical watch and a limited edition of just 1,200 pieces, produced at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in northern Japan, where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are hand-finished within sight of Mt. Iwate.

This timepiece introduces a new textured dial pattern inspired by the ridges of Mt. Iwate, continuing a design language first seen on Grand Seiko mechanical watches in 2006. Rendered in a pale light-blue hue, the dial evokes the clarity of the air and water surrounding the mountain, an active volcano whose rugged terrain and lava flow have long informed Grand Seiko's nature-inspired dial work.

Case and bracelet are crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, a proprietary stainless-steel alloy offering corrosion resistance well beyond typical watch-grade steel. The 40mm case combines distortion-free Zaratsu polishing with delicate hairline finishing, and measures 11.7mm thick with a 47mm lug-to-lug, giving it a low centre of gravity for a secure, comfortable fit on the wrist.

At its core is the Calibre 9SA5, Grand Seiko's high-beat automatic movement, running at 36,000 vibrations per hour with an 80-hour power reserve enabled by a twin-barrel design and Grand Seiko's Dual Impulse Escapement. The movement carries an accuracy rating of +5/-3 seconds per day, exceeding Swiss chronometer standards, and is finished with bridge striping inspired by the flow of the nearby Shizukuishi River, visible through a sapphire display caseback that also reveals the watch's engraved limited-edition serial number.

The bracelet's three-fold clasp incorporates titanium components alongside an 18k rose gold Grand Seiko emblem, a tri-tone detail unusual even by Grand Seiko's standards. The watch carries a 100m water resistance rating and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance, rounding out a piece built as much for daily wear as display.
