Few watches have made an impact quite like the Casio G-Shock GA-2100-1A1. When it launched, it was an absolute sensation that resulted in a worldwide shortage — bringing many new fans to the brand, including a younger generation who had never worn a G-Shock before. Nicknamed the "CasiOak" for its striking resemblance to the iconic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, this all-black watch is one of the most talked-about timepieces of its generation.
The GA-2100-1A1 draws design inspiration from the 1983 DW-5000C, blending a classic G-Shock silhouette with a modern analogue display and a distinctive octagonal bezel that makes it instantly recognisable. At 45.4mm wide and just 11.8mm thick, it is the thinnest G-Shock in production, and despite its diameter, it wears comfortably on various wrist sizes due to its innovative design. The result is a watch that breaks the mould of the typical oversized G-Shock, offering a more subdued, mainstream appeal that can easily transition from outdoor adventures to office wear.
At the heart of the GA-2100-1A1 is Casio's Carbon Core Guard construction — a resin case reinforced and strengthened with carbon fibre — which allows for a more compact and lighter build without sacrificing any of the toughness G-Shock is famous for. The result is a watch that weighs just 51 grams.
The all-black analogue-digital display is clean and minimal, with world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms, and a double LED light with LCD backlight. 200-metre water resistance and full shock resistance round out a seriously capable feature set. The battery lasts approximately three years.
Bold enough for the street, tough enough for the elements — the GA-2100-1A1 is a modern icon.
