Savanna's Bluebird of Happiness Story

Family heirlooms mean more than words…we sat down with Savanna to hear the beautiful, heartfelt story behind her gifted Bluebird of Happiness brooch. Passed down from her great grandmother, to her grandmother and now onto her, this cherished piece of heirloom jewellery carries the memories, love, and legacy of her family

Question: Do you remember the first time you saw the Bluebird brooches?

Answer: My grandma first gave me the bluebird brooches when I was 15 and it was just a precious memory because they were so special to her. They were from her mum to her.

Question: What kind of emotions come up when you think about the women before you who wore them?

Answer: Sometimes we don't speak our truth as often as we should to those we love and hopefully in some ways she understands how important gifting something so small to me actually was.

Question: Tell me about how the Bluebird became part of your wedding day.

Answer: So when it came to my wedding day I was like "oh something blue I've got the perfect thing, I've got the bluebird brooches".

Question: Was there a moment on your wedding day where you really felt their presence — your great-grandmother, your family — through the brooches?

Answer: The morning of my wedding ideally you would want to be getting ready with our mum. Instead we invited grandma to join in, we looked through mums wedding photos and she got to tell me how mum was on her day. I felt mum's presence in that moment it was almost like three generations together.

Question: Why was it important to you to include them in such a special moment?

Answer: I don’t think she understands what the bluebird brooches mean to me as a person and I think that would be special for her to understand what I strong tie it is to her and mum.
